Regular Meeting
Tuesday, July 11, 2006

Approval of Minutes
MOTION to approve the Regular Meeting minutes of June 13, 2006.
MOVED by Jerry Brophy.  SECONDED by Pat Ingellis.  IN FAVOR: Bob Fish, Jerry Brophy, Charlie Cobb, Pat Ingellis, Mike Kelley. OPPOSED: None. ABSTAINING: None. APPROVED: 5-0-0.

Commission Membership and Organization
Chairman Fish reminded the Commission that there are two vacancies that need to be filled.  Anyone interested is asked to speak with Mr. Fish.  Due to Ms. Preston’s resignation, the Commission is also in need of a representative to the Inland Wetlands Commission. Mike Kelley has been approached by the Commission to become the Inland Wetlands representative if needed.

Commission Projects
Judy Preston offered her talents and expertise to the Commission.  She expressed her interest in staying active with the Commission on any projects they might have for her.  Christine Nelson informed the Commission that there is currently a multi-commission project dealing with educational stations at road endings in the works and that this may be of interest to Ms. Preston. Ms. Preston will speak further with Ms. Nelson and Mr. Hearne on this project.  At this time the Commission also agreed to brainstorm and come back with any ideas for other possible projects that Ms. Preston could help with.

Great Cedars:
Pat Ingellis and Charlie Cobb informed the Commission that they and 6 others recently went out to trail blaze at Great Cedars and will be going out again on Wednesday, July 26th at 9:00a.m. if anyone would like to help.  Additionally, they stated that boundary marking is progressing and thanked Mr. Hearne for his help in providing maps.



Stewardship Plan:
Chairman Fish stated that the feedback he has received regarding the Stewardship Plan document has been positive and asked Mr. Kelley to move forward with any final edits.  Mr. Kelley stated he would work on this and submit a final copy to Chairman Fish in a few weeks.

Phragmites Control:
Ms. Preston informed the Commission that the project is at a standstill for the moment while the Attorney General is reviewing the petition for access to landowner’s property.  Once this is decided, progress will begin again.

Fishway System: Ms. Preston reports that the project is still alive and about to be complete.

Articles for Saybrook Events
Chairman Fish reminded Charlie Cobb, Pat Ingellis, and Mike Kelley that the deadline for the next Saybrook events is August 11, 2006 and to please submit their article on stewardship/boundary marking.  Additionally, Mr. Fish will work with Christine Nelson on a piece regarding the development of Great Cedars East.

Land Use Updates, Special Meetings, Site Walks, Ground Truthing, Etc.
Damon Hearne informed the Commission that he has been working with the Assessor’s office and the new Parcel Map is progressing nicely.  As soon as the new parcel map is complete, a new open space map will be developed with the parcel map as its base.

MOTION to adjourn the meeting at 8:55pm. until the next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 7:30pm., Land Use Conference Room, Old Saybrook Town Hall, 302 Main Street.
